President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration’s response to the abduction of secondary school students is better when compared to that of the previous government. While Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped 110 students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state on February 19, 2018, the group abducted 274 students from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state, on April 14, 2014. Former President Goodluck Jonathan was accused of not responding to the Chibok incident on time because he felt it was the antics of the opposition. A university admission-seeker simply identified as Loveth has reportedly committed suicide in Ekiugbo, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State. Loveth, who was said to be displeased with the 163 mark she garnered in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), was found dead at her home on Wednesday morning. Our correspondent gathered that the deceased picked medicine as her choice of study. The Nation gathered that the deceased took three bottles of Sniper and these were found by her side on Wednesday morning. According to sources, Loveth had gone to check her UTME result on Tuesday and discovered to her amazement that she had scored far lower than she had expected and would not secure admission to the university to study her “dream course.” The 18-year old reportedly left the centre very distraught and wept profusely.  

MAKURDI—Independent Human Rights and Crime Monitoring Group, IHRCMG, has accused the Nigerian military of encouraging the influx of cattle into Benue State and takeover of Benue communities by herdsmen in violation of the Open Grazing Prohibition Law of the state. Speaking on the execution of the military’s Exercise Ayem A’ Kpatuma (Cat Race) in in Makurdi, yesterday, the Team Leader, Solomon Adodo, regretted that the state had witnessed more killings, destruction of farmlands and houses despite the coming of the military. The group also accused the Federal Government of complicity in the crisis bedevilling the state, alleging that the government was not doing enough. He said: “Exercise Ayem A’ Kpatum (Cat Race) is causing more harm than good to Benue communities. The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, has presented one million naira cheque to the immediate family of late actor, Obi Madubogwu. The cheque was presented by Hon.Desmond Elliot  to the late actor’s widow, Uju Ngozi Madubogwu last Thursday. Abuja – Colonel Hameed Ali (rtd), Comptroller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said 91 percent of importers in the country are smugglers. Ali, who made the disclosure on Thursday, in Abuja, at the public presentation of a book, ‘Appraisal of the Crime of Smuggling In Nigeria’, authored by an Assistant Comptroller of the Service, Musa Omale, said the 91 percent of importers did not comply with the stipulated rules governing goods importation. He directed all Customs Area Commands to apply more stringent measures to track down the smugglers and paralyse their activities permanently. The CG, who urged Customs personnel to carry out this mandate to the letter, advised that it was the statutory duty of the NCS to search and confiscate all smuggled items into the country, to save the economy. A Nigerian man has been arrested alongside others for drug peddling in India. The suspects who have been identified as Okonkwo Basil Ndubisi alias Kevin, 30, a Nigerian, and Abbas Mustan Seer Zanjeer Barwala, 23, who hails from Mumbai and a resident of Adugodi - were nabbed by police after a tip off. Various narcotic substances were seized from the suspects, according to reports. According to DeccanChronicle, the police received a tip off about two people supplying narcotic substances to college students and software professionals. The police arrested the duo and seized 4.2 kg of ganja, 120 gram of charas and five grams of cocaine from them. “Ndubisi had come to India on student visa, which had expired and he had not renewed it.
